Dehydration when ignored in children can lead to death very quickly. Dehydration means a situation where the child's body is not getting enough fluids. There are several causes of dehydration and they are not drinking enough water, playing out in the hot sun for too long, sweating too much, diarrhea, stomach infection and vomiting. Any of these conditions can lead to dehydration in children.
Diarrhea remains to be one of the most common diseases that leads to dehydration in children. When a child is having too many bowel movements and is vomiting several times then efforts should be made on a constant basis to replace the fluids in the body. Electrolyte solution is the best thing to give a child when dehydrated. It replaces the fluids in the body at a fast rate and keeps the balance stable.
Infants and toddlers are at a higher risk of dehydration because diarrhea is very common among them. Especially children who are being potty trained often do not wash their hands properly and they are more prone to diarrhea which causes dehydration. That is why it is very important for an adult to monitor children when they are passing stools. Also, it is best not to feed children raw vegetables outside the home environment to avoid diarrhea. Vegetables have to be washed thoroughly before giving it to them. The symptoms of diarrhea in children are headaches, vomiting and frequent bowel movements. Some children may cry due to the pain in abdomen.
